To help your child develop a healthy foundation, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) advises parents to bring in their child by their first birthday, or within six months after their first tooth comes in. You can expect your child’s teeth to begin erupting typically around six months of age.

While parenting is one of the greatest challenges we can experience, having helpers makes the job easier, not to mention more fun. For years the Tooth Fairy has been making children everywhere smile, along with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. But unlike Santa and the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy visits children all year round, so you can enlist her help to create awareness while making it fun.

Your child can lose up to 20 baby teeth before their permanent teeth come in, so that’s a lot of visits! We invite you to use these visits to impress upon your child the importance of oral health. When parents suggest that the Tooth Fairy values a healthy tooth more than a decaying specimen (and offers a bigger reward for a nicer tooth), your child will get the message in a fun way. You can even leave a note from the Tooth Fairy with the reward, praising your child’s excellent dental habits and encouraging your child to keep up the good work.

At Westlake Pediatric Dentistry in Austin, Texas, we invite parents to enlist the aid of the Tooth Fairy to inspire your child to better care for their smile throughout the year. Along with good dental hygiene habits and professional cleanings and checkups, the Tooth Fairy can help your child strive for a healthier smile.
